Who Has? I Have!
One quick way to include daily practice and motivate students to master basic facts is through the use of the Who Has…I Have activity cards. These cards can be created for virtually any topic. Frequent use as both a whole class practice or as a learning center activity for partners or small groups will provide “facts” practice in a highly-motivating format. It engages students in an engaging way as they practice their listening skills, as well as improve their vocabulary.
Implementation
- This activity helps students have fun while practicing certain fact sets with repetition in a group setting.
- Who Has…I Have is a set of cards used to reinforce a particular skill that involves a simple matching: word with definition, problem with answer, foreign word with English translation, state with capital, etc.
- Generally, everyone participates once in each round.
- You must use all the cards in a deck to come out even. If you have more cards than people, let some people have the extra cards. They will participate more than once.
- Use this free downloadable template to make your own. Simply write in the boxes what you wish for your students to identify (i.e., words, definitions, math problems, etc.) and go!
Classroom Management
- Give each participant a card. For a small group you can give some participants more than one card, and for a larger group you can let two people work together to differentiate.
- One person will begin by reading his/her Who Has? from his/her card. The person with the correct answer will say “I Have…” then read his/her Who Has card.
- Continue until all cards have been read.
- If all answer correctly, the one who began with Who Has? should end with the I Have from his/her card.
