Famous People - Scatterplot activity
This activity gives students practice in collecting data and then graphing the data in a scatterplot. Students use estimation of ages of famous people and then find the actual age. Students then graph x and y values based on the estimated and actual ages of the people. Students should be able to model y = x at the end of the activity.
Students use data that is relevant in their lives to create a scatterplot. Students use the scatterplot to make conjectures about their estimates versus the actual ages of the famous people. Students learn to estimate, find actual information, graph, create and use tables, and make conjectures from the information.
