Properties of Matter
This is a powerpoint with tons of information on many different aspects of matter. Slides can be chosen for use with a lab measuring liquids, or solids. The slides give short, concise information with great graphics showing how some tools are used to measure physical properties like volume and mass, and density. One should not expect to use all slides in one lesson in fourth grade. Simply pick the 3-4 slides that will help teach the standard. Tools shown are graduated cylinders, beakers, and rulers.
This powerpoint is massive but does compact information using main ideas. At the fourth grade level this powerpoint could be an entire unit. Choosing only the slides that pertain to physical properties and how to measure physical properties will help narrow the focus. This would be a great lab for students to become experts using two or three measuring tools. This requires very little prep time and ensures students handle and use tools in a setting that is fairly easy to manage.
