Cell Scale-Learn.Genetics-The University of Utah
This link is connected to a larger website called Learn.Genetics developed by The University of Utah. The entire site is one of the premiere educational resources for genetics and cells and can be used to develop curriculum that will align with several biology standards.
Before students can even begin to understand cells and how they function it is important to introduce the idea of cell scale. How big are cells? They are microscopic, but what does that mean? This site allows the teacher to show the class how cell size compares with other common things; how the cell organelles compare in size to the cells that hold them; how biological molecules compare in size to the organelles they make up and how atoms compare in size to those molecules. This media is an excellent visual learning tool.
