The pH Factor
A good interactive activity that allows students to use a pH panel to determine if a selection of given substances (lemon juice, vinegar, ammonia) is either acids or bases along with the specific pH. A lesson plan is included that uses inquiry to explore and investigate the pH of different substances. This lesson allows students to test predictions and hypotheses, to experiment with alternatives and to record observations and ideas. An extension is also included with an activity using the pH of Mysterious Solutions as well as the use of a variety of indicators.
A brief activity for student use as either an extension or review that incorporates the comparison between acids and bases of different given substances. It also includes additional activities involving inquiry, exploration and investigation along with predictions, forming hypothesis and experimentation. Close ties to GLE. This activity could be an excellent extention activity.
