Match that habitat!
This short Magic School Bus interactive game asks students to match some endangered animals to their habitats. As they are correctly matched, a text box pops up to give the student more information about why that animal is endangered by habitat problems. At the end of the matching activity, there is a short discussion among 2 Magic School Bus characters about how habitat issues can lead to an animal becoming endangered.
This game is quite simple, but it could be effective as a follow-up practice activity, an intervention, or even a formative assessment to check whether students have grasped the concept that different animals require different habitats to meet their basic needs. It is important to tell students that if they don't understand why a given animal fits in a given habitat, they MUST read the pop-up text. If the pop-ups seem to be above the reading level of the class, the teacher could present the game as a whole-class activity on a large-screen monitor, reading the text aloud.
