Landforms in a Tub
Children will create a model of earth's landforms in a plastic tub of sand and soil. Using various tools they will create featured landforms and experiment with water erosion, wind, and rain. There is an added area for enrichment and assessment. The GLE uses the words "change as a result of erosion (weathering and transportation)". This lesson's objectives are exactly that. By creating the landforms in the tub, students demonstrate a knowledge of the terminology. By experimenting with the rain (water) and wind (hairdryer), they will begin to understand the effects these forces have on the landscape.
