Cooking in the Chemical Kitchen

This is a 5-day unit using the 5E Model of instruction to explore evidence of chemical changes.  Inquiry, stations, and incorporating literature are included in this lesson. Click on the Lesson Content to get to the lesson. This resource also offers a formative and summative assessment. On Day 3 the teacher could replace United Streaming video with brainpop video Physical and Chemical Changes.

Standards & Objectives

Learning objectives: 
  • Students will be able to distinguish between physical and chemical changes of matter. Students will describe and explain evidence of chemical changes.
Essential and guiding questions: 
  • How can temperature influence a chemical change? 
  • What is the difference between a chemical and physical change? 
  • What evidence is there to prove that a chemical change has taken place?
