Cause-Effect: An Introduction
This lesson plan introduces the concept of cause-effect relationships primarily through children's books. After introducing the concept (the "set"), the teacher will model the process for students by reading them a children's book and brainstorming (whole-class) possible cause-effect relationships. Students then work in groups with assigned roles to identify cause-effect relationships in an assigned children's book. The lesson not only introduces the concept of cause-effect to students but also provides students with opportunities to think critically and apply what they have learned to something that interests them. The Reader's Theater (pages 3-4) could be used as part of the set or as an enrichment activity.
